TIDAL CREEK BREWHOUSE

Summer in the Beer Garden: Firepits, Hammocks, and the Lowcountry Hangout

There’s a particular kind of evening that only happens on the Grand Strand. The temperature finally gives a little after a long June day. The golden light goes sideways through the palms. Somewhere nearby, someone’s got a cold drink in hand and not a single place to be.

That feeling — unhurried, warm, a little bit magic — is what summer in the Lowcountry is actually about. And if you haven’t found the right place to sit down and let it wash over you, we’d like to make a suggestion.

Not All Outside Spaces Are Created Equal

There’s a difference between a patio and a beer garden. A patio is a few tables outside the front door. A beer garden is a reason to stay.

What separates the two usually comes down to thought. Did someone actually design this space for the human beings who’d be spending time in it? Is there shade when you need it? Something to do while you wait on a friend? Somewhere to stretch out? Somewhere the dog feels welcome?

Across the Southeast, the best outdoor spots at breweries and restaurants tend to share a few common threads: they’re layered — meaning there are different areas with different vibes — they’re genuinely welcoming to families and dogs, and they make the outdoor experience part of the reason you came, not just a bonus on a nice day.

It’s also worth saying: summer in Myrtle Beach is not the same as summer elsewhere. It’s hot. The humidity has opinions. A great outdoor space has to account for all of that — covered areas, airflow, shade, and room to breathe. The Grand Strand doesn’t just need a patio. It needs a patio built for the actual weather.

What We Built (and Why)

When Dara and Adrian Sawczuk were designing the Tidal Creek space, they wanted something that felt like the best backyard party you’ve ever been to — one where everyone’s invited and nobody feels out of place.

That’s what you’ll find at 3421 Knoles Street in The Market Common.

The beer garden wraps around the back of the building — a layered outdoor space with a full outdoor bar, string lights overhead, firepits for when the evening cools, hammocks strung between the trees, and lawn games spread out across the grass. There’s a covered patio section for those days when the sky can’t quite make up its mind, and the whole thing opens into an easy open-air hangout that feels more backyard than venue.

Seventeen rotating small-batch beers are on tap at any time, brewed right here in Myrtle Beach by Brewmaster Patrick Gibson. On a summer evening, that might mean a crisp European Pilsner that practically cleans the heat off the day, a Hazy IPA with that soft tropical note that plays well with the salt air, or a Blonde Ale that’s cold and easy and exactly right. The tap list rotates weekly — which means there’s always something new to try, and always a reason to come back.

Live Music in the Garden

Summer at Tidal Creek runs to a soundtrack. Live music in the beer garden is a regular part of the calendar — local musicians playing in the outdoor space while the sun sets over The Market Common. It’s the kind of thing you don’t have to plan for. You just end up staying longer than you expected.

If you want to know who’s playing when, the best move is to follow us on Facebook and Instagram — that’s where we post the weekly lineup as it gets confirmed. Live music picks up especially through June, July, and August, which makes summer the best time to come with no particular agenda and just see what’s happening.

The K-9 Korral and the Four-Legged Crew

The beer garden is also home to the K-9 Korral — a fully fenced dog run where your pup can stretch out, socialize, and just be a dog while you do the same thing a few feet away. It’s one of the things that makes Tidal Creek genuinely dog-friendly rather than technically dog-friendly.

There’s a difference, and dogs seem to know it.

If you’ve got a Barks & Brews member in the household, summer at Tidal Creek comes with a few extra perks: a dedicated spot on the patio, monthly promos on treats, malt licker, and pup cups, and access to Yappy Hour events throughout the season. It’s a $50 membership for the first year, $25 to renew — one of the better deals in town if your dog has strong opinions about which patio they’re spending the evening on.

A Place for the Whole Crew

The beer garden isn’t just for adults. Families with kids are genuinely welcome — there’s a play area inside, and the outdoor space has room for everyone to spread out. Tidal Creek was built from the start as a community gathering place, which means the mix of people on any given summer evening is exactly that: a mix. A family at the picnic table. A group of friends in the hammocks. Someone’s dog making the rounds.

The Craft Kitchen runs dinner every day from 3 to 9, so if you’re making an evening of it, you don’t have to go anywhere to eat. The food menu is built for exactly this kind of night — things that pair well with a cold beer and go down easy when you’re in no hurry to be anywhere.

Come Find Your Spot This Summer

The Grand Strand in summer is something. The whole world seems to come through here — tourists, families on their first trip, people who’ve been coming for thirty years, folks who just moved to the area and are still figuring out where everything is. What doesn’t change is the pull of a warm evening outdoors with something cold in your hand and good company close by.

That’s what the beer garden at Tidal Creek is here for.

Come find your table. Grab a hammock. Bring the dog. Bring the kids. The firepits will be going once the evening cools, the beer’s always fresh, and there’s plenty of room for everyone.

We’re at 3421 Knoles Street in The Market Common District, Myrtle Beach, SC — right in the heart of it. Full tap list, food menu, and upcoming events are at tidalcreekbrewhouse.com.

Summer goes fast. Come enjoy it with us.
